Water Crossing - a bridge between two cultures exploring the deeper affinities between people through the unifying vocabulary of art and spirit. An installation/performance on water, composed around notions of separation, connection and transformation the four elements activated through the alchemical process of sublimation.

Performers are rafted between pendopo islands through a waterscape shaped by fire, pyrotechnics and sound. Screens flank a walkway on which a Javanese dancer moves across the water, through video projections of material transformation.

Created in collaboration with Javanese company Padepokan Lemah Putih - performer Suprapto Suryodarmo and traditional Javanese dancer Rushini - Water Crossing took place over the last days of President Suharto’s authoritarian regime in Indonesia. He fell from power on May 21st, the second night of Water Crossing.
